Courage instead of cover-up; science instead of hysteria
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, was selected by Time magazine for its list of 100 most influential people of 2022. Here is what former Governor Jeb Bush wrote about him:
“During the pandemic, most people stayed home, and those who didn’t probably moved to Florida. Despite relentless criticism, Governor Ron DeSantis kept schools open, ensured Florida’s economy remained open for business, and allowed individuals to determine their own risk tolerance. His approach works. It’s one that has allowed Florida to emerge from the pandemic as a national model of personal freedom, economic growth, environmental protection, and education excellence. Florida continues to see record population growth, unemployment remains below the national average, the private sector is growing, and Florida remains a national leader in school choice. On top of that, DeSantis has demonstrated his environmental credentials with major investments to restore America’s Everglades, preserve and expand wildlife corridors, and protect Florida’s precious waterways.
While the Beltway crowd may not like his style, it’s his record that will become his legacy.”

Panic and anxiety based on imaginary horror scenarios is not a policy but a way to lead the country to disaster.
A great deal of information about COVID-19 was already available in early 2020.
Already then there was no reason to abandon science, to be afraid and to spread fear.
DeSantis and other cool-headed leaders made the cost-benefit calculation based on the best and most balanced information in front of them, avoided hysteria and worked for their citizens in a balanced and well-considered manner.
The hysteria will subside but history will remember.
